How do i work out (a+b) squared and (a+b) cubed in algebra?

I'm working on a project and i have to work out formulas for how i would find out a+b squared and cubed. I'm finding it difficult to come up with a step by step method on how to work out the answers

Any help would be great thanks.

What is a VPN?
